Brief History Of EQC
EASTERN QUEZON COLLEGE is situated in the province of Quezon. It is located in the fourth district; in the municipality of Gumaca.
In 1947, it began the secondary and education courses in a rented lot and building. In 1951, the school was given recognition by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) for the secondary courses and for the Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.E). Increase in population paved way for the opening of new courses with government recognition. The founder and first president of this college was Dr. Vicente R. Vilar, an educator, socio-economic leader and business executive in Lopez, Quezon.
The present administration, headed by the President Atty. Antonio T. Vilar includes in their long-range plan the addition of new degree courses, construction of new buildings and facilities, improvement of existing campus structures, professional and academic growth and development of faculty members, and scholarship for faculty members and deserving students.
On June 28, 2011 the President of Marinduque State College (MSC) Dr. Romulo H. Malvar, and the Vice-President for Administration of Eastern Quezon College (EQC) Mrs. Estelita V. Rodelas signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) at MSC, Brgy. Tanza, Boac, Marinduque. It is specifically stated in the MOA that the MSC will proved Graduate Studies Extension Program to EQC to address the demand of teachers form the 3rd 4th districts of Quezon for a quality but affordable graduate courses. On July 3, 2011, the opening program and general orientation for the first batch of graduate education program was held at EQC. The event was attended by the formidable members of MSC Graduate Studies Program, together with the administrators and college instructors from EQC.
Since school year 2012-2013, the school started its implementation of the K-12 Basic Education Curriculum with the first batch of Grade 7 students. As early as school year 2013-2014, EQC started its preparation for the realization of the Senior High School Program (Grades 11 and 12 beginning School Year 2014-2015. As of April 2014, the institution's Vice President for Administration and the leaders of initial partner institutions signed MOA specifically for the purpose of early implementation of SHS program. The partner educational institutions are Quezon National Agricultural School (QNAS) and Lamon Bay School of Fisheries (LBSF); while the partner establishments are Quezon Electric Cooperative I (QUEZELCO I) AND Bulwagang Salakot Hotel and Restaurant.
On April 28, 2015, DepED issued Government Permit No. SHS-193, S. 2015 to EQC to start accepting SHS students effective School Year 2015-2016. The institution will initially offer Academic Track with the following strands: Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and Technical Vocational (TechVoc) Tracks with the following strands: Home Economics (House Keeping) and Industrial Arts (Electrical Installation and Maintenance). Starting School Year 2017 - 2018 the SHS Program will have an additional strand, General Academic Strand, by the virtue of SHS - 137,s. 2017.
Beginning School year 20170-2018, the Basic Education Department and selected classes in the College Department will use Dynamic Learning Program (DLP), a program that is developed to promote self-reliance among learners. The program has the components such as parallel learning classes, activity-based multi-domain learning, comprehensive students and teachers' portfolios, and strategic study and rest periods.
It will be a continuing commitment of this institution to serve and be part in the moral, educational and cultural formation of the youth who are the future citizens and hope of our nation.
